Jamestown was the first British Colony in North America.
The Virginia Company of London was a group of investors looking to make money off adventure. A venture of theirs was chartered in 1606 by King James I. These people also wanted to add more balance to new world expansion by other countries.
Three ships left England in December 1606. 105 people started the journey, 104 finished it. The caravan reached the Virginian coast 4 months later. The party explored for a few weeks. On May 13, the ships reached a suitable site along the modern day James River. The colonists came onto dry land the next day and set up shop. This was England's first attempt at a colony in the New World. All sorts of missteps would encounter these colonists at later dates, such as famine, abandonment and wars with Natives.
I picked this topic because Jamestown was the first British colony, out of all the British colonies, which went on to become the founding members of the United States.
